B2B Newsletter - May 10, 2005 Brought to you by: Basics2Bylines: A WNY Writers' Network
Hello Fellow Writers!
With the warm weather finally upon us, it's easy to get distracted from writing, but don't let the good weather let your mind wander. And if you do, make sure you take a notepad and pen with you and take some notes. Who knows what great ideas might come from it...
Congratulations to Veronica Hogle, whose essay, "A Bouquet of Thanks for a Wonderful Mom," was published Sunday, in the Buffalo News. What a beautiful way to say thanks to Mom for all she's done over the years! http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050508/2023746.asp.
If you follow the Olaf Fub Sez column in the Buffalo News, you'll have seen my latest published poems. If not, you can view them here: "Live Now" http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050510/1028324.asp
You'll have to be quick if you want to see this one, it's already been on-line for a week and soon it won't be available for viewing: "Beyond the Foggy Mists" http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050502/1068673.asp
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just Buffalo is moving!
As of July 1st, the Just Buffalo Literary Center will be located at Market Arcade, 617 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14203. The phone number will stay the same 832-5400.
According to Executive Director, Laurie Dean Torrell, "The Just Buffalo Literary Center (http://www.justbuffalo.org/) is moving to Market Arcade July 1, to share office space with CEPA (http://www.cepagallery.com/) and Big Orbit Gallery (http://www.bigorbitgallery.com/) and launch an administrative collaboration which has been two years in the making. Through this collaboration, the organizations will share a grant writer, development, marketing, membership, purchasing, board and staff training, along with other functions, while keeping their individual identities. Goals include reduced operating expenses, increased earned income, a greater programmatic collaboration, and the creation of a model useful to other cultural organizations."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Basics2Bylines Writers' Groups News
A special "Thanks" goes out to WRITER magazine and the Kalmbach Publishing Co. for donating two great reference books - The Writers' Handbook 2005 & Jeff Herman's Guide to Book Publishers, Editors & Literary Agents 2005, which will be given out as door prizes at our next workshop at the Lancaster Library on May 17th.
This just happens to be the same workshop where author Cliff Fazzolari will be our guest speaker. Cliff will speak of his many publishing experiences, including Sterlinghouse Publisher's recent release of his sixth book, "Counting on a Miracle." This is a beautiful account of his son's battle with a life-threatening tumor and the wonderful people at the Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo who saved his life.
Make sure you take the time to check out the display case at the Lancaster Library, while you're there, where we're featuring the recent published clips of some of our fellow writers! Maybe you'll spot one of yours there...
We'd also like to say, "Thanks!" to Galaxy Press for sending a copy of "To The Stars" by L.Ron Hubbard. This science fiction masterpiece was originally published in Astounding Science Fiction magazine in 1950 and has recently been released in a deluxe hardcover edition. It was sent to us so we could share our thoughts and comments on it with other members of our group, and perhaps to send some feedback to Galaxy Press. If you'd like to get on the list to read this copy, just let me know at the next writer's group meeting or send me an email at ediesuarez@basics2bylines.org.
Basics2Bylines Writers' Groups are held monthly at two locations for your convenience, the Lancaster Library at 5466 Broadway, Lancaster, NY and Barnes & Noble on Niagara Falls Blvd. in Amherst, NY. Please feel free to attend either one, or both. For more details visit our website: http://basics2bylines.org/B2BWritersGroups.html.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Upcoming Event:
While in the process of creating this newsletter, I received an email with an invitation to the writers of Basics2Bylines - A WNY Writers' Network to attend an upcoming East Coast Event.
On June 10, 11 and 12, 2005, scr(i)pt magazine will be holding the Inaugural New York City PitchXchange at NYU. This is an event for screenwriters who, on the first day of the event, can attend classes that cover pitching and an all-day seminar with pitch guru, Robert Kosberg. The second day will be the actual pitch event where about 30 film and TV producers/agents will hear 5-minute pitches from screenwriters. For more information, you can visit their web site at http://www.pitchxchange.com/.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you have literary news, please, share it with us, so we can share it with others! Send me an email at ediesuarez@basics2bylines.org and let me know what's up in your literary world.
From basics to bylines we want to help YOU get published!
Best wishes to all,
